Get ready to return to the Labyrinth. A new movie set in the world of the 1986 fantasy classic is reportedly gathering steam and getting ready to set writers to work on creating an exciting new story.
According to Deadline, TriStar Pictures is close to securing the services of Fede Alvarez and Jay Basu to co-write that will dive back into the world of the Labyrinth for the first time in over three decades. Basu is best known for his work on the sci-fi feature Monsters: Dark Continent, while Fede Alvarez recently lit up the big screen with his thriller, Don’t Breathe.
Unfortunately, there’s not a great deal of information about where exactly this movie will live within the Labyrinth world, but considering the first (and only) Labyrinth movie featured a ton of weird and wonderful elements, there’s plenty of opportunity for expansion. Most fans of the movie will be delighted to hear that this new project will not, in any way, be considered a remake and will instead look to build upon the lore created by Tim Burton all those years ago.
Personally, I wouldn’t be against some form of ‘Goblin King the Early Years’ story, but finding an actor with the charisma and swagger to fill Bowie’s boots would not be an easy task. Regardless, this will be a project we’ll be watching very closely in the coming months.
