A new red band trailer for Life, the sci-fi horror flick starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Ryan Reynolds has been released, and it features a grisly example of what might happen if humanity ever finds alien life.
Many would agree that Ridley Scott’s Alien is the gold standard of sci-fi horror movies, so it’s not too surprising to see that Life is definitely drawing inspiration from that whole “in space, no one can hear you scream” vibe.
Life follows a team of astronauts on the brink of a major scientific discovery: conclusive evidence of the existence of alien life on Mars. As the team conducts their research on the International Space Station, they learn that the single-celled organism at the heart of their breakthrough is far more advanced than they realized. And, as is often the case when humans come into contact with advanced stuff from space, things start to go very, very wrong.
Even though Life will have crept under many fans’ radars, the trailers look very encouraging. Alien: Covenant might be owning all the sci-fi horror headlines, but in such an under-served genre there’s always room for more.
Life is released in theaters on March 24th.
