It’s rare that you get more than you bargained for from a movie, especially when that movie is still over three months from premiering in theaters. But, that’s exactly what we’ve received from Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant, which just released a compelling four-minute prologue featuring all the major cast members.
The prologue, titled ‘Last Supper‘ introduces us to the crew of the Covenant, a colonization ship on a journey to start a new human colony on a far-flung world. The video tells us this is the deepest into the galaxy a human colonization mission has ever been, so it’s safe to say these folks are traveling into the relative unknown.
The title, ‘Last Supper’, might sound ominous, but it’s more of a literal name than anything, as the video sees the Covenant crew enjoying their last meal before they bunk down for cryosleep. There is, however, a little shock in store…
Of course, watching people enjoying a meal on a spaceship in an Alien movie is bound to make you feel unsettled, we’ve got the great John Hurt to thank for that. That’s what makes the choking scene so special. It’s a throwback to brilliant actor and an iconic sci-fi movie scene.
The video gives us a nice look at a few of the character dynamics, and most importantly, starts getting us attached to all the crewmembers that will inevitably die when the full movie is released.
Here’s a brief synopsis for Alien: Covenant, which hits theaters on May 19th.
