Had enough of those pesky off world activations interrupting your peace and quiet at home? This brilliantly nerdy Stargate-inspired front door modification could be your answer.
Built by Simon Morse, the metallic iris shutter mimics the iconic contraption used throughout the Stargate franchise. Morse built it using a belt-activated mechanism, laser-cut aluminum, and an array of specially designed 3D-printed components.
The door project was the first of what has become an impressive portfolio of iris-based home improvement ideas from Morse. Since creating this video, Morse has gone on to develop ideas for an iris-shutter skylight and double-glazed iris-shutter windows.
Morse outlines the building of the door shutter in a video at the bottom of this page, but if you don’t want to spoil the magic, we suggest you just look at the shutter with an added event-horizon effect instead.
