Hellboy 3

It’s Official, There Won’t Be A Third Hellboy Movie

By Kieran Dickson February 21, 2017

Hopes for a third Hellboy movie look to have taken a crushing blow today with Guillermo del Toro, creator of the first two movies, tweeting the most conclusive development the situation has seen to date.

Hellboy 3 Sorry to report: Spoke w all parties. Must report that 100% the sequel will not happen. And that is to be the final thing about it

— Guillermo del Toro (@RealGDT) February 21, 2017

del Toro has always kept things relatively tight-lipped when it comes to talk of Hellboy 3, so both the tone and content of today’s tweet should just about put the matter to bed. In the past, the director has admitted that getting a third Hellboy movie off the ground would be tricky, but just last month he held a Twitter poll to gauge interest, stating that if he received over 100,000 votes he would sit down with Ron Perlman and Hellboy creator, Mike Mignola to discuss the matter.

The HELLBOY III is our chance to vote the right way in 2017! If 100k votes come in 24 hours I promise to have a sit down w Da Perl & Mignola

That poll got close to 140,000, so we can only assume that today’s tweet means the subsequent discussions did not go well. What exactly caused discussions to break down is not clear, but it certainly looks as though Perlman was hoping for the opposite result.

In loving memory of the #Hellboy franchise officially biting the dust, I will take the rest of the day off Twitter.

— Ron Perlman (@perlmutations) February 21, 2017

It’s well known that del Toro had planned a story for the continuation of Hellboy’s adventures, but between Pacific Rim and his many other projects, it looks like the horned hero won’t be getting enough love for a return to the big screen.
