Could a fourth Matrix movie actually happen? Keanu Reeves has revealed he’s surprisingly open to returning, but only if certain conditions are met.
In an interview with Yahoo Movies, Reeves suggested what would have to happen if he were to return to the world of The Matrix. As it turns out, the key box he would want to see ticked having the Wachowskis return to both write and direct the project.
“The Wachowskis would have to be involved. They would have to write it and direct it. And then we’d see what the story is, but yeah, I dunno, that’d be weird, but why not?”
If you’ve seen the final installment in the Matrix trilogy, you’ll know that Reeves’ character Neo dies in a blaze of glory at the end. However, the possibility of Neo’s return is left open when Sati asks the Oracle “Will we ever see him again” to which the Oracle replies “I suspect so. Someday.”
Reeves has a more straightforward explanation on how it would work, though.
“People die, stories don’t…..people in stories don’t.”
It’s been 14 years since The Matrix Revolutions was released, and in many ways, it feels as though the Sci-Fi genre has moved on. But, could a slightly updated take on the Matrix battle between humans and machines still work? We’re certainly not ready for a reboot, but perhaps a fourth movie that could tackle some of the issues we see today, all with the updated computing and robotic technologies that have emerged since 2003?
